Thirty enormous 17th century group portraits from the collections of the Amsterdam Museum and the Rijksmuseum have been brought together for the first time and are on display in the Hermitage Amsterdam. These “brothers and sisters” of the Night Watch are unique in the world and rarely seen due to their size. In line with the character of the exhibit visitors can get immortalized by posing in a group portrait themselves. A green screen photo application allows visitors to pose in a standing or seated position with up to 4 people.
The portraits of the participants are placed in the Amsterdam Museum regent room and mixed with other participants’ portraits. The results are always surprising because participants never know who will appear next to them in their group portrait. The group portraits are shown in a slideshow on site and uploaded to an album on Flickr where participants can view and share their picture.
